ABSTRACT:
This talk investigates the use of active control techniques for acoustic echo cancellation in multi-channel spatial soundfield reproduction, where the reverberant channels of the listening room are both unknown and variable. We use a spherical harmonic expansion to express the desired and measured soundfield within a region, and describe how the channel equalization problem can be simplified when viewed in this mode domain. We show that this allows the equalization of individual modes as independent linear transformations of the desired soundfield modes, which can be implemented as a set of parallel single tap adaptive filters. Simulation results indicate good performance compared to existing methods, as well as some drawbacks which will be discussed.
