Project Code: CECS_1039
This project is available at the following levels:

Keywords:

Outline:
Spoken language takes on different levels of formality depending on the social situation and the relationships between those involved. Identifying and employing the appropriate level is an important component of language learning. In particular, respect usage and honorific language are of basic importance in many languages, and it is difficult to master this aspect of the language without intensive role-playing.
The purpose of this project is to investigate different technologies that will allow remote students to practice appropriate use of different levels through theatrical role-playing for language learning.
The investigators will work with lecturers and students to articulate system requirements clearly by understanding the learning experiences to be facilitated as the constraints of the online course context. They will identify potential technology solutions and evaluate the relative merits and challenges of each. Finally, the investigators will develop a project plan for prototyping and testing the preferred solution(s).
Goals of this project
To produce a report which identifies possible technologies, including an evaluation of the relative merits and challenges of each. The report should also articulate system requirements and ideally include a project plan for prototyping and testing the preferred solution(s).
Student Gain
Develop and enhance skills related to: understanding the problem space, eliciting requirements, communication with and managing stakeholders; professional communication such as report writing and presentation skills.
