Trust and Reputation

Project Code: CECS_53

This project is available at the following levels:
CS single semester, Honours, Summer Scholar, Masters, PhD

Supervisor:

Professor Jochen Renz

Outline:

In online transactions we often deal with people we do not know. How can we possibly be sure about who we can trust and who we should better not trust. A popular method is to use a reputation system which keeps track of the past performance of every user of the system and which assists users in forming their opinion about whether another user can be trusted. Even though many reputation systems are being used (the most prominent is probably the eBay Feedback System), their performance is not satisfactory at all and many fraudulent transactions are still happening.

The aim of a summer, honours or masters project in this area is to develop and implement a reputation system and to compare its performance with existing systems. PhD projects in this area will be more focused on analyzing and developing the foundations of trust and reputation.
